How many budding spinners would give anything to spend time in the nets with Shane Warne?
Well 16-year old leg spinner Nick Richardson from the Kew Cricket Club in Melbourne got that chance during the KFC Twenty20 International at the MCG.
After chatting to CATV about his new role as Cricket Australia’s Spin Ambassador, Shane spent some 1-on-1 time in the nets with Nick to discuss some of the finer points of bowling leg spin.
After retiring from international cricket in 2007 as the game’s greatest ever wicket taker, Shane approached Cricket Australia prior to this year’s Boxing Day Test about taking on the role of helping develop Australia's next generation of spin bowlers.
“I think one of the things I’ve been looking for in domestic cricket at a first class level is an understanding of spin bowling,” Warne said.
“(I want to) try and educate people on how to use a spinner and then travel around and actually work with First Class spinners.”
“The aim is that hopefully in a couple of years will have a wealth of first-class spinners really pushing up the ranks.”
